The New Vegetable Patch

On this page:

More than a month has passed since I last updated these pages, and the sun and rain have done their job - lots of things are growing very nicely. I've had one disaster - but I'll come to that later.

Veg patch 1

Here you can see runner beans on the right, main crop potatoes on the left at the back and if you have sharp eyes, you'll see the sweetcorn planted in a block on the left at the front. (19th May)

In the morning, four days later (23rd May)

Almost a fortnight later, the potatoes are coming along. (5th June)

And so is the sweetcorn. In the background, some of the cleverer runner beans have worked out how to climb the poles! (5th June)

At the far end of the runner beans, away from the path, are a few shallots. After a slow start, they are starting to look as if they will be fine. (8th June)

I realised that a) I could do with a bit more space to plant in, & b) the top grass, by the road, needs a bit more turf. So I started cutting turf again (10th June)

I cut two rows. (10th June)

Veg patch 2

Meanwhile, over on the other side of the path, the other new vag patch has been thriving. My old sprinkler, which refuses to oscillate no matter how many times I take it apart & put it together again, has been retired in favour of the snazzy yellow number - bought online of course! (19th May)

I'm trying to get this page up before 12 noon today, so will just post the image, and come back later to do the text properly! Greetings to anyone from Helen's gardening group that make it to here!!!

Disaster

The horrible slugs/snails gobbled up virtually ALL the broccoli seedlings planted in the old veg patch. It is surrounded by - well, to be frank, a totally overgrown minigjungle, so I suspect the hungry culprits lurked there before descending ion the yummy seedlings :-( :-( (Pics to follow)

OK - more soon!
