The New Vegetable Patch

Saturday 20th March

I didn't get much done in February & early March, in part because campaigning began for the local elections in May. I was busy with entering data about which Pudsey electors voted in the 2019 General Election into Labour's database, plus a bit of canvassing & leafleting. However the Covid 19 outbreak means the election is postponed for a year, so I have been able to get back to some gardening in the last week or so.

I pruned the 3 little apple trees (which generally do produce fruit) & the cherry tree (which doesn't); the picture shows one of the apple trees and the cherry tree:

I noticed that the tree which usually has a lot of tasty apples is looking a little the worse for wear - that hole in the trunk is not going to go away!

I've also cleared the overgrown border next to the patio, and dug over 2/3rds of it...

The new veg patch is gradually getting dug; and I've already planted some shallots - on the rhs, by the stake in the top corner. For now I'm not doing any more turf removal, but may do more when I've finished the digging.

Up by the chickens, the turf seems to be establishing itself quite nicely

More soon I hope!
