Lots has been happening in the garden since I last posted! I have lots of pics, and I'll try to get lots of them up here. First, a picture of the wisteria which after years of grumpy flowerlessness, has decided to bloom this year!
I start most of the seeds inside; the french windows are south facing, so a good place to put them. Beans on the left, tomatoes on the right, from early May.
The bubble wrap is intended to heat up the compost so the seeds sprout quicker
Later in the month, I was encouraging the corn seeds germinate. I had used dry compost for one tray, and they were developing well. I had used cold wet compost for the other two trays, and as nothing was happpening, I put them in the airing cupboard for a couple of days, and that did the trick - this is when I took them out.
And here they are, back in the kitchen.
Beans and courgettes, hardening off.
The main crop potatoes went in - Cara and Java, from Potato House (more content soon!!!)
In early March, the first things to be planted were onion sets on the top east side:
By the end of the month, some growth is visible:
Next, I put in some peas - optimistic, as the seeds are very old - >10 years I think.
At the beginning of April, I planted a row of 12 Bambino seed Potatoes Organic
Sometime last autumn, I planted some conkers and acorns in the veg patch. I do realise they are not veg, and will move them before they get too big, though the acorns haven't (yet?) appeared. On 10th April, some conker seedlings were sprouting ;-)
At the end of April, the onions are growing nicely, along with some weeds! Before & after weeding pics:
In early May, I weeded from the last onion row to the potatoes, so the beetroot seedlings have less competition! Replanted quite a few which were sprouting in odd places!
More soon!
